The English Chair for Science Departments organized the contest of compositions in English “My University” dedicated to the 90th anniversary of VSU. Find below the composition of the first prize winner Konstantin Nekrasov and extracts from compositions of contest participants. Konstantin Nekrasov A sleepy week is coming unwillingly through the city. Rainy days make it untidy and even dirty; citizens look a little miserable and sad. It seems like cars also fall asleep on their way in the streets. Maybe that is why there are so many traffic jams on the roads these days. At last my bus achieved the last stop and I got off. The bus nodded as if it said me good-bye and then went away with nobody in it except the driver. It is the third year when I go this way. Sometimes I think I could go here with closed eyes. I suppose it is not a kind of sentiment, it’s just a feeling of belonging to something big and important. The way I go six days a week brings me to something new, interesting, challenging, and sometimes very difficult. The University is a small world with its own atmosphere, rules and laws, rhythm and pulse of life. There is always somebody who can make you smile; give something new and important here. Having studied about two years here I suddenly noticed that I can’t consider my University as a building with crowds of people inside it only. It is something more organized, almost alive and thinking, it is a whole organism with its reactions and evolution. But my studying in the University is not an aim of my life and it never was. It is only a kind of instrument which can help to find and open myself and give an impulse to do something later. And there are a lot of things that I am obliged for to my University. Having all these thoughts in my mind, I did not notice how the rain was over. I stood in front of the main entrance of the VSU. “Hello,” I said soundlessly to the building. It stopped its glance at me for a moment and then the sun came out from clouds and lit the walls and the surrounding street. The new day has begun. |
