Ever since the establishement of Voronezh State University, for almost a century, research at the University has played a major part in the success of the city and the region - and has contributed to the advance of knowledge and its application. Being central to all our activities, research enhances our teaching and learning, and enriches the experiences of our staff and students. The variety of research activity extends across all faculties and departments, often crossing traditional subject boundaries.

Fundamental and applied research, covering a wide range of subjects in Science, Engineering, Social Science and the Humanities is promoted through our research institutes, centres and laboratories, many of them interdisciplinary. Among our research units are 5 research institutes, 10 research centres, 14 joint laboratories with Russian Academy of Sciences, Botanical Gardens and a nature reserve Galichya Gora. The University also has a technology transfer centre, aimed at providing researchers with support in launching their innovative technologies.

Our faculties and research units have strong links with the industry, undertaking applied research projects, meeting local industry needs for innovations. The University has many and varied links with international organizations around the world, attracting substantial research funding from a number of sources, including Carnegie Corporation, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and Kennan Institute and elsewhere.
