University Internet Centre (UIC) informs us that in campus building № 6 of Voronezh State University, 40a, Kholzunova Str., the project to expand the coverage of the wireless network has been completed successfully. 100% coverage wireless network WI-FI has been deployed.
The network node of the Northern campus has been reconstructed; modern network equipment has been installed. It has made it possible to increase the data transfer rate between the Central and the Northern campus buildings by 10 times from 1 Gigabit/s to 10 Gigabit/s. The cabling infrastructure (SCS) of the local network in campus building № 6 has been reconstructed, which will allow it to function quickly, stably and safely.
A basis has been laid for connecting the dormitories to the University network and deploying WI-FI there in the future.
The project to provide wireless access to the network in campus buildings started in 2011 on the initiative of the University administration. 178 WI-FI hot spots have been installed so far. VSU wireless network now covers almost all the University territory. It is available in campus buildings 1, 1a, 1b, 2, 3, 4, 5, 5a, 5b, 6, 7, 8, 9, in the Botanical Garden and VSU Business Incubator. After the required personal user registration both University staff and students are authorised to use the wireless network. There are more than 9500 wireless network users in VSU, and this number is constantly growing.
