VSU students and staff watched solar eclipse

On 20th March, Voronezh citizens had a chance to watch a partial phase of a solar eclipse. The event attracted a lot of interest among the university staff and students.

VSU astronomical observatory organised observation of this rare and beautiful astronomical phenomenon on the professional level. Anybody could climb to the observation deck on the roof of the main building and watch the eclipse in the university telescope equipped with a special optical light filter.

Amateur astronomers among university staff also took part in this event: Yelena Mikhailova – the Associate Professor of the Faculty of Applied Mechanics and Mathematics – organised another observation point in the courtyard of the main building. Those who wanted to watch the solar eclipse received old floppy disks that could be used for observation. And it appeared to be more fun to look through them rather than a telescope.
