On 29 October, the 5th Voronezh International Model United Nations was held by the Faculty of International Relations. Among the 100 participants there were both Russian and international students. The jury consisted of lecturers from the Faculty of International Relations. The conference was sponsored by Grazhdanskoye Sobranie Lider regional public organization.
At the opening ceremony the Model’s Secretary, General Pavel Plaksin, a fourth year student of the Faculty of International Relations, welcomed the participants. The opening ceremony was followed by a series of separate committee sessions that lasted several hours. Each committee adopted their resolutions, which will be later sent to the Information Centre of the UNO in Moscow.
The Security Council, chaired by Sergei Stepnyak, a first year master’s degree student specialising in international regional studies, considered various ways of resolving the conflict in the Korean Peninsula. The General Assembly meeting chaired by a first year student Karina Kulapina, discussed the problem of euthanasia and its status in the world. The General Assembly meeting, held in English, was chaired by a third-year student Evgeniya Vorobieva, and discussed the efficiency of the Security Council and its restructuring. At the end, the Secretary General congratulated all the participants, and awarded prizes to the best and the most active delegates.
The Faculty of International Relations considers the idea of modelling international organisations as a good opportunity to discuss urgent world problems. Students and lecturers are welcome to take part in next year’s model event.
