On 1 February, the first meeting of the working group responsible for the 100th university’s anniversary ceremony took place in the main building's auditorium. The participants discussed a number of organisational issues and the approach to the ceremony.
The history of Voronezh State University is closely entwined with the history of Yuriev (Derpt) University which was established in 1802 following a decree of Russian Emperor Alexander I. In 1918, it was decided to move it to Voronezh. At the same time the Voronezh community petitions to open a university in the city that, at that time, had only one institution of higher education – Agricultural Institute. Thus, aspirations of professors and students of one of the oldest universities of Russia and advanced minds of the city in the centre of Russia merged together. In 2018, Voronezh State University celebrates its 100th anniversary.
