University researchers tell schoolchildren about “smart” polymers

The Faculty of Chemistry continues a cycle of lectures for schoolchildren of forms 8–11. On 20th February, the Head of the Department of High Molecular Compounds and Colloids Alexandr Shestakov told the children from regional schools and interested adults about “smart” polymers. The audience learnt that these materials can be solid and liquid, crack-sensitive and elastic at the same time, their structure and properties changing depending on their purpose. The unique properties of polymers make it possible to solve many problems in such industries as oil production and pharmacology.

Students of the Faculty of Chemistry Anna Yeliseyeva and Alexandr Milyayev made the journey to the fascinating world of macromolecules even more enjoyable. They showed a number of experiments that demonstrated various properties of high molecular compounds.
