Six scientists of Voronezh State University were included in the gold rating of activity and popularity of Russian economists 2016, published by the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation as a part of the research project “Academic rankings”. The 14th position is taken by the university Rector Professor Dmitry Endovitsky, the 36th position – the Head of the Department of Regional Economics and Territorial Administration of the Faculty of Economics Professor Igor Risin, the 197th – professor at the Department of International Economics and International Business of the Faculty of International Relations Vladimir Shirobokov, the 331st – professor at the Department of Economic Analysis and Audit of the Faculty of Economics Nikolai Lubushin, the 337the – the Head of the Department of Economics and Organisations Management Yury Trstchevsky, and the 435th – the Head of the Department of Economic Analysis and Audit Larisa Korobeinikova.
Last year five VSU representatives were included into the rating of activity and popularity of Russian economists 2015. This rating was used as a base for the Gold ranking 2016. However, this year the authors of the ranking have made some corrections in the system of Russian Science Citation Index as it has a number of issues of methodological kind that affect the real value of economists’ contribution to science. For example, the algorithms for calculation have been improved and scientists’ original individual data have been cleared of signs of corruption. As a result, the ranking authors have thoroughly and manually examined primary data for 500 economists. All economists included in the rating were assigned to a research status: white, green, yellow or red. For instance, the white status is assigned to a researcher with no signs of final data corruption. VSU representatives belong to the white group of the ranking.
Thus, the developers managed to fulfil three major tasks – to classify economists, clear the economists’ individual data on publications and citations in the system of Russian Science Citation Index and to introduce corrections to individual ratings. According to the authors of the rating, the concept “activity” means the number and frequency of publications, whereas the concept “popularity” refers to the number of citations and the Hirsch index.
