On 18 May, the premier performance of the second season of the English language university drama group “Cats’ House” took place in the auditorium of the main building of Voronezh State University. The drama group was organised by the Department of English language for Sciences Faculties. The name of the drama group coincides with the title of its first play which was staged last year. It is also an abbreviation that stands for Creative, Artistic, Talented Students’ House.
This year the drama group presented to the audience the play “The Club of Oscar Wilde” – a compilation of works of different genres by Oscar Wilde. The play started with poems and then continued with three fairy-tales: “The Selfish Giant”, “The Remarkable Rocket”, and “The Devoted Friend”, the short story “The Model Millionaire”, the novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray”, and the plays “Salomé”, and “The Importance of Being Earnest”.
The play was performed in English. However the audience had a chance to read a programme which had the summary of the play in Russian. The best thing about the performance was its youngest actors: kindergarten children who came on stage with the actors of the drama group for the second time.
All in all, about 70 students from 8 university faculties took part in the play: students from the Faculty of Computer Sciences, the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics, the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology, the Faculty of Chemistry, the Faculty of Geography, the Faculty of Pharmaceutics, the Faculty of Mathematics, and the Faculty of Economics. Among other participants were students from Voronezh State Medical Academy, musical college, and the Koltsov gymnasium.
As is traditional, at the end of the performance the audience took part in a quiz based on the plot of the play. The winners and participants of the quiz received sweet prizes and the actors were filled with positive emotions.
