This year, the graduation ceremony for the master’s students of Voronezh State University was held in a new format. On 1 June, over 400 master’s students, deans of all faculties and the administration of VSU gathered in the Admiralteyskaya Ploshchad to start a new university tradition inspired by the example of European universities. Before the official part of the ceremony a column of master's students wearing official academic gowns and caps paraded from the main university building to the Admiralteyskaya Ploshchad accompanied by the music performed by the combined orchestra of Voronezh Philharmonic Hall.
The first speaker to welcome the academic fellowship was the rector of Voronezh State University Dmitry Endovitsky.
‘We have gathered here just two years before the 100th anniversary of VSU – the university that has changed fundamentally the reputation and the status of our city. Admiralteyskaya Ploshchad was not chosen arbitrarily. We know that the main university building was built on the ruins of St Mitrophan’s monastery. And this is the square where Peter I and Saint Mitrophan worked for the benefit of Russia and built dockyards for its first battleships. The world of VSU is in sync with the development of Russia. The motto of VSU and its graduates is “Semper in motu” (always in motion). To be always in motion and lead the way we have to respect traditions and constantly generate innovations in this highly competitive world. Today we are introducing a cultural innovation – the master’s students graduation ceremony that is to become a beautiful tradition for our university and the city. Master’s students of VSU! Take advantage of this exclusive right to be stronger and more successful than others. You are VSU graduates. Be grateful to your alma mater! Develop and excel! Viva master’s students! Viva university! Viva Voronezh! Viva Russia!
At the end of the graduation ceremony, a 2016 graduate of the Faculty of Economics, Vladislav Budanov, and a 1995 graduate of the Faculty of Physics and the current director of Voronezh AO KBKHA, Alexei Kamyshev, gave a speech.
‘I would like to thank our university for the beautiful, emotional, and democratic ceremony we have had today. Twenty years ago I was one of the first master’s students of the Faculty of Physics, then I completed Business School of the Faculty of Economics at VSU, my alma mater. Dear graduates, I would like to wish you to enjoy the moment. You did a big thing. Believe me, the education you got at the university that offers a systematic and fundamental knowledge is a capital you will benefit from in future. The academic staff granted each of you with a precious capital. Now it is up to you how to use it. The most important thing is to keep in touch with your university,’ said Alexey Kamyshev.
Vice Mayor Nadezhda Savitskaya congratulated the graduates on behalf of Voronezh administration:
‘Today the main university of the Central Black Earth Region and Voronezh is celebrating graduation of its students. This ceremony is absolutely amazing. I hope this event will become traditional and will attract both citizens of Voronezh and guests of our city. I would like to wish the graduates to have a successful future and outstanding careers.’
The ceremony finished with an oath of VSU master’s students:
‘I swear to use the knowledge I gained at the university for the benefit of my motherland! I swear to remember my teachers and my fellow students! I swear to take care of my alma mater! I swear to support the university graduates and I to know that each of them will always be ready to support me! I swear to never stop developing and learning and to remember the legacy of my mentors! I swear to take every effort to make the world a better place!
