On 2 October, the official graduation ceremony for students from Freiburg University of Education (Germany) who finished the master’s programme “Foreign Language Teaching with Application of Online Technologies” was held in the conference hall of the main building of Voronezh State University.
The Rector, Professor Dmitry Endovitsky, opened the ceremony. In his welcoming speech he drew the attention of the audience to another important step in the development of the cooperation between Voronezh State University and its German partner university – Freiburg University of Education. He congratulated the graduates and invited them to join the German Alumni Association (DAWU).
“The cooperation between our universities was launched last June thanks to a Tempus – DeTel project which included among its members a representative of Freiburg University of Education – the Director of the Institute of English Studies, Thomas Wright,’ said Dmitry Endovitsky.
In her response, the representative of students from Freiburg University of Education, Imke Hofmann, thanked the rector for the opportunity to learn more about the system of pedagogical education in Russia and a varied entertainment programme. The German students wanted to express special gratitude to the lecturers from the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology, Associate Professors Elena Chaika and Marina Stcherbakova.
At the end of the ceremony, the participants discussed the results of the two weeks of joint learning by the Russian and German students and expressed their hope for further fruitful cooperation between the universities.
It was the third visit of Dr Wright to VSU. This time, he visited the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology together with 15 students who did an exchange study course between 21 September and 2 October and were introduced to the master’s programme “Foreign Language Teaching with the Application of Online Technologies” which is based on the university’s online platform “Moodle”. They also took part in a workshop dedicated to studies by a famous Soviet psychologist L.S. Vygotsky. The German students also visited English classes in schools and further education institutions. The classes were taught by the second year students from the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology who are taking programmes in pedagogical education. The German students also visited VSU’s branch in Borisoglebsk and the language school “Interlingua” where they learnt more about the peculiarities of further education in languages and opened the “Days of German Culture”.
The study programme was accompanied with a varied entertainment programme. They had walking and interactive tours around Voronezh that helped them learn more about Russian traditions and Voronezh sights. They also visited VSU’s nature reserve "Galichya Gora”, Zadonsk, the Archaeological Museum in the village of Kostenki, Voronezh aquarium, the site of a famous tank battle, and the museum “Prokhorovskoye Pole” (Prokhorov field).
The second visit of Dr Wright to VSU occurred in February. It was supported by a DAAD grant for research and teaching activities in foreign universities. Dr Wright presented a number of research workshops in Methodology of Educational Research for the students of master’s programme “Foreign Language Teaching with the Application of Online Technologies”.
In May, representatives of Voronezh State University – Associate Professors from the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology, Elena Chaika and Marina Stcherbakova, and 16 students of the master’s programme “Foreign Language Teaching with the Application of Online Technologies” visited Freiburg University of Education at the invitation of Dr Thomas Wright. The visit was supported by Dr Wrights’ DAAD grant. The purpose of the visit was an exchange programme during the research and internship period.
