National Swimming Championship – a new national record!

Between 31 March and 2 April, XXVI Masters Swimming Championship was held in Penza. Among the participants were over 545 sportsmen between the age of 20 and 93. The “Sura” swimming pool has a 25x50 meter basin, and the swimming distance was 50 meters.

The authorised representative of the Russian Swimming Federation for the second time was an assistant of the Faculty of Physics of Voronezh State University, Yury Perin. Apart from being the Federation’s representative, Yury participated in the contest himself and became a three time champion of Russia, winning in the 50, 100, and 200-meter backstrokes. In the 100-meter backstroke Yury Perin also set a new record for Russia in the Masters category. The previous record was set in Berlin and nobody managed to beat it for almost three years. Yury Perin is now to take part in the World Championship in Budapest.

Apart from participating in championships and contests, Yury Perin also works as a swimming coach at VSU Swimming Pool, where he teaches children starting from the age of seven.
