A university lecturer takes part in the 15th meeting of representatives of Russian universities at the French Embassy

The French Embassy in Russia organised the anniversary 15th meeting of representatives of Russian universities. Voronezh State University was represented by the Head of the Department of French Philology, Elena Alexeyeva.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Russia, Sylvie Bermann gave a welcoming speech at the opening ceremony of the meeting which took place at the Higher School of Translation of Lomonosov Moscow State University and emphasised the importance and the role of the French language in the relations between Russia and France. Among the other speakers were Vice-Rector and the Head of the Department for International Cooperation at Moscow State University, Yury Mazey, the President of the Russian Academy of Education, Yury Zinchenko, and the Director of the Higher School of Translation of Moscow State University, Nikolay Garbovsky. The Cultural Counsellor of the French Embassy, Fabrice Rousseau, the Research and Technology Counsellor of the French Embassy, Abdo Malac, and the General Director of the Campus agency, Béatrice Khaiat, were the honoured guests of the meeting.

This year, the event was dedicated to the topic “The role of assessment in methods of teaching French as a foreign language: the road to evolution”. The topic is very timely as contemporary methods used to evaluate linguistic competencies need improving. The topic was discussed in round table discussions, master classes which were held by Russian and French specialists, experts from French didactic centres, universities, and the ESIT School for Interpreters and Translators.

On the agenda there were issues of French resource centres and their functioning, the development of partnerships between Russian and French universities, enhancement of activities of the international DELF\DALF exam centres. During the event, there were a number of presentations and meetings with representatives of French universities which allowed establishing new partnerships.

Our university also received contemporary teaching materials as a present from the French Embassy.

The speakers noted the growing significance of the French language, culture, and business in Russia, the importance of the academic community in the development of the relations between the two countries, and they expressed their confidence in the sustainability of these relations. The French Ambassador gave a reception in honour of the Russian representatives in the residency of the Ambassador of the French Republic (Igumnov House).
