On 10–14 December, a session of events with international first year students dedicated to the Constitution Day of the Russian Federation and the Neutrality Day of Turkmenistan was held by the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies at the Faculty of Geography, Geoecology, and Tourism of Voronezh State University.
On 10 December, they took part in the youth festival of national games within the city project “Inter-dialog”. Students played active games from different nationalities, danced khorovod (a traditional ring dance), guessed songs, competed in a test of dexterity, and tried on different national costumes.
On 12 December, first year students participated in an interactive activity “Nationality – human” at the Regional Youth Centre. They discussed issues relating to rights and socialization that foreign citizens face in our country.
On 13 December, the Festival of Turkmen culture dedicated to the Neutrality Day of Turkmenistan took place with the support of the National Chamber of the Voronezh Region and representatives of the Pre-university Faculty for foreign citizens at VSU. Maksat Redzhepov, representative of the Turkmen community of the Voronezh Region (member of the National Chamber), and Vladimir Ivanov, expert in the field of national relationships of the Voronezh Region, gave welcoming speeches. During the festival, students from Turkmenistan told the guests about the history, traditions, and culture of their country. The audience had a chance to see the traditional Turkmen “Kushtdepdi” dance performed by the students of the Pre-university Faculty of VSU, to see the traditional costumes, and to listen to traditional songs about the homeland and neutrality of Turkmenistan. After that, Natalia Yakovenko, the Head of the Department of Human Geography, held an educational quiz, and the winners were given presents.
Also, everybody could help themselves to pishme and gatlakly, traditional food made by Turkmen students. At the end of the week, international students actively participated in the “Day of Russia-Turkmenistan friendship”. It was organised at the “House of Friendship” at the premises of the Leisure and Culture Centre “Severny”. The guests had a chance to learn more about national dances, songs, cuisine, and traditions. International students had a unique opportunity to expand their horizons and learn more about the country that Turkmenistan has been actively cooperating with, Russia.
