Well-known Serbian film director and actor, Emir Kusturica, will become an Honorary Doctor of Voronezh State University. The decision was taken at the meeting of the academic Council on 3 April.
“The idea to award Emir Kusturica with the title was suggested by a team from the humanitarian faculties of VSU. Emir Kusturica is a world known celebrity who contributes substantially to strengthening Russian and Serbian relations. Owing to his support, the Faculty of Philology will be able to teach Serbian to its students and the interests of VSU will be promoted in the countries of the Balkan peninsula. ‘This suggestion was decidedly supported by the administration,’ said the Rector of VSU, Dmitry Endovitsky.
The development of the fruitful cooperation between VSU and Emir Kusturica was promoted by the society of Russian, Serbian, and Montenegrin friendship “Slavic Bridge” and its President, Lyubomir Radinovic, in particular. The organisation is actively engaged in promoting stronger relations between Russia, Serbia, and Montenegro. It should be noted that a lot of friendly events dedicated to various aspects of the Slavic culture and recognised for its warm and friendly atmosphere were held at the university owing to the close cooperation with the society.
‘I’m very glad that the name of such a globally minded person as Emir Kusturica, the name of one more Serb who is in love with Russia, will become a part of the cultural and educational life of the Voronezh region,’ said Lyubomir Radinovic.
