The results of the Moscow International Inventions and Innovative Technology Salon "Archimedes–2020” have been concluded. The event consisted of a number of varied events: a fair of inventions, conferences, venture fairs, contests, and presentations of national projects and technologies. Staff members of the Faculty of Chemistry of VSU, Tatiana Yeliseyeva, Anastasia Kharina, Vladimir Shaposhnik, and Victoria Kabanova, were awarded with a silver medal in the section “Inventions and innovative technologies”. The researchers proposed to use a new innovative approach to purify amino acid solutions by means of electrodialysis.
“This method has been proved to be effective on an industrial scale in the production of ultrapure water. One of the first people to use this method was Professor Vladimir Shaposhnik, who works in our department. This research area has been actively developed at VSU and has been applied to other physiologically important substances, amino acids,” said Anastasia Kharina, staff member of the Department Analytical Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry of Voronezh State University.
The invention provides for efficient and extensive purification of neutral amino acids solutions of mineral salts by means of electrodialysis. It allows achieving a high level of desalination of amino acid solutions with target product losses within 3%. Additionally, the demineralisation of amino acid solutions requires lower energy consumption as compared to the already existing methods: recrystallization, which needs to be repeated several times and demands high energy consumption; and electrodialysis with the help of an inert mixing baffle which does not allow achieving extensive desalination.
“Amino acids purified by our method can be used in pharmaceutical, healthcare, cosmetic, and other industries with strict requirements as to raw materials,” said Anastasia Kharina.
Moscow International Inventions and Innovative Technology Salon "Archimedes-2020” is the largest international platform where every year the best inventors present their projects. This year, over 600 projects were admitted to the exhibition, which were presented by 314 participants from 24 countries and 35 regions of the Russian Federation.
“We are glad that projects of our staff members were awarded with a silver medal at the international salon "Archimedes–2020”. The Department of Analytical Chemistry has achieved a lot of success in the area of electromembrane processes. We expect more achievements of our colleagues in the promotion of the electrodialysis technology aimed at purification and separation of amino acids at the final stages of microbiological and chemical synthesis,” said the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry, Victor Semenov.
