On 7 May, at the place that has become traditional for such events (19, Teatralnaya street) a ceremonial opening of a commemorative plaque dedicated to university employees who lived in this house and fought in the Great Patriotic War was held. The plaque has the names of A.M. Abramov, B.M. Bernadiner, V.V. Boloznev, N.A. Viunov, L.B. Genkin, M.V. Goncharov, A.P. Goryainov, A.A. Zemlyanukhin, V.S. Kavetskiy, A.G. Kurdov, S.G. Lazutin, N.P. Latyshev, S.I. Mashkin, L.S. Obtemperanskaya, G.S. Pashnev, N.A. Plaksenko, V.V. Pokornyi, I.Ya. Fedoseyev, N.P. Khozhainov and Ye.G. Shulyakovskiy.
Yury Bubnov, VSU Vice Rector for Strategic Administrative Management, opened the ceremony with a welcoming speech. He paid special attention to the contribution of the academic secretary of the Council of Rectors of Voronezh Region, Associate Professor Vladimir Listengarten to organisation of the event and turned the floor over to the Rector of VSU, Professor Dmitry Endovitskyy.
The head of the university emphasized that during the Great Patriotic War Voronezh State University worked until the very last moment. It held classes, and the students and the teachers joined the armed forces as volunteers. The names of some of them can be found on the commemorative plaque. This is not the only VSU event dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Victory. On 8th May, a traditional flower-laying ceremony with ceremonial guard from VSU Military Training Centre was held at the monument dedicated to the VSU staff and students who died during the Great Patriotic War. Dmitry Endovitskyy invited everyone to take part in the event. In the end of his speech he addressed the older generation: 'Please, talk more with the young and tell them about these terrible years'.
