Every year the number of students entering Voronezh State University is increasing, and more and more regions are represented by the university students (in 2014, students from 74 territorial entities of the Russian Federation joined VSU). This year, one of the main events in the life of the university was the grand opening of a new dormitory that was held on 9th June in the Northern District of the city.
Among the participants of the ceremony were Olga Golodets – the Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Aleksandr Klimov – Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Aleksei Gordeyev – the Governor of the Voronezh Region, Oleg Mosolov – the Head of the Department of Education, Culture and Youth Policy of the Voronezh Region and Dmitry Endovitsky – the Rector of VSU.
The new dormitory is a nine storey building with a total area of 9,075.94 square metres and rooms for 330 people. The building was constructed in cooperation with VSU business partners, the corporate contractors OOO Stel-Invest and OOO Luch. It is a residence hall with rooms for two, three and five people equipped with kitchens and bathrooms. Additionally, the building has two gyms, a cafe, and a medical station with a sickbay.
Rooms in the new dormitory will be offered to successful and talented students who have passed all exams with excellent marks during the last two examination sessions, sportsmen who have taken part in regional and national sport events, students who have showed good results in research, student activists, and postgraduate students and interns visiting VSU as a part of exchange programmes.
Dmitry Endovitsky presented the Northern District campus of Voronezh State University and spoke in detail about the new projects – VSU Information Technologies Centre and the training swimming pool.
At the end of the ceremony the participants cut the red ribbon and opened officially the new and comfortable dormitory. Having visited the new VSU building the guests moved to the new building of the Faculty of Economics where they had a chance to see a robotics exhibition of the Experimental technical school and met students from Voronezh universities.
