On 12 November, Voronezh State University celebrated its 98th anniversary.
The celebrations started with a ceremony of laying flowers to the the commemorative plaque dedicated to its founders. All the participants of the ceremony were welcomed by Rector Dmitry Endovitsky and and Rector's councillor, Vladimir Listengarten.
“98 years ago the founders of our university and the first students came here, to Voronezh, from Tartu (called Yuriev back then). Since then, Voronezh has been a large educational centre, with VSU playing a great role in its life. I congratulate everyone here, and wish you all the best. And to our university – the leading one in the Black Earth Region, I wish further development and success”, – said the rector.
He also read the address of the Governor, Aleksey Gordeev, congratulating the university and its employees.
After that, Professor Joseph Sternin from the Faculty of Philology told the audience about the new fund for supporting young VSU scientists specialising in linguistics.
At the end of the ceremony all the guests and students were invited to taste a huge cake decorated with the university’s coat of arms and 98 candles. Another surprise for the guests was an amusing musical performance by the “Cover Brothers” cover band.
A cake, good music, and warm words – these are the essential components of a true birthday. Happy birthday VSU!
