The French Embassy in the Russian Federation organised a meeting for French language teachers from Russian partner universities. VSU was represented at the event by the Head of the Department of French Philology, Elena Alexeyeva, and Associate Professor Alla Scherbakova.
The speakers of the opening ceremony, minister-counsellor of the French Republic in the Russian Federation, Paul-Bertrand Barets, the Rector of Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Anatoly Torkunov, and the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in France, Alexandre Orlov, emphasised the importance and the role of the French language in the relations between Russia and France. It was mentioned at the meeting that President Emmanuel Macron had announced five years of the enhanced promotion of the French language in the world and one of its tools is bilateral collaboration in the area of civil society, i.e. "Trianon Forum" which was established on the initiative of the presidents of Russia and France in 2017. Co-chairs of the Forum are Pierre Morel, the former Ambassador of France in Russia and the Rector of Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Anatoly Torkunov. The speakers noted the growing significance of the French language, culture, and business in Russia, the importance of the academic community in the development of the relations between the two countries and expressed their confidence in the sustainability of these relations.
The cooperation in linguistics is the foundation for the development of relations in various areas. A number of pressing issues were discussed during the meeting. The participants considered modern approaches to the learning of the French language in professional activities to enhance students' competitiveness. They also talked about innovative methods of teaching French developed by acknowledged French didactic centres, resource centres, the development of partnerships between Russian and French universities, the administration of the exchange programmes' procedure for Russian and French students, and the enhanced activities of the international DELF/DALF exam centres.
During the event there were a number of presentations and meetings with representatives of French universities which allowed establishing new partnerships.
Elena Alexeyeva met the head of the Academic Cooperation Department at the French Embassy, Pascal Cauchy, and discussed the results of his visit to Voronezh State University, and the institution's achievements and prospects in the area of cooperation with French universities.
Our university also received contemporary teaching materials as a present from the French Embassy.
