On 18 October, the first Russian-Uzbek educational forum "New Staff for New Economy" took place in Tashkent. The event organised by the Russian Rector's Union and the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Vocational Education of the Republic Uzbekistan under the support of the administrations of the presidents of Russia and Uzbekistan was aimed at the expanding and institutionalisation of the bilateral cooperation in the area of science and education.
Over 140 heads of educational organisations from Russia and Uzbekistan gathered together to discuss pressing issues in the area of education. Russia was represented at the event by 80 leading universities from Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and regions of the Russian Federation. Among them were representatives of the Association of Higher Education Institutions of the Central Black Earth Region.
The forum included discussion sessions under the same topic "Knowledge-Driven Economy: Human Resources as the Foundation for Economical Modernisation of Russia and Uzbekistan". The participants of the sessions discussed the modern approaches and mechanisms for specialists’ training in the key economical industries, the status of technical education among the priorities of cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan, and the prospects for the development of science and innovations in institutions of higher education.
The Rector of Voronezh State University, Dmitry Endovitsky, and the Rector of Tashkent State Pedagogical University, Shavkat Sharipov, moderated the section "Russian language as a competitiveness factor in the educational environment".
During the forum, VSU signed a cooperation agreement with Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages (Uzbekistan).
