On 7 December, the State Kremlin Palace held the award ceremony for laureates of the Award of the Russian Geographical Society and winners of the 4th photo competition of the Russian Geographical Society “The most beautiful country”. The Award by the Russian Geographical Society honours the most outstanding achievements in geography, ecology, preservation and promotion of the natural, historical and cultural heritage of Russia. It is an international biannual award. This year, the ceremony was attended by prominent Russian researchers, artists, and politicians. Among the guests were the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, and the Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, Sergey Shoygu. Voronezh State University was represented at the ceremony by Dmitry Vladimirov, Associate professor at the Department of Recreational Geography, Country Studies, and Tourism of the Faculty of Geography, Geoecology, and Tourism.
In his welcoming speech Vladimir Putin highly praised the work of the Russian Geographical Society. “I would like to say thank you to the laureates for their contribution, as well as to everyone who participates in such important work as studying our own country, as through it we learn more about ourselves”, – said the president. He also pointed out that Russian people are not aware enough of the richness of the culture and history of their country and thanked those who work hard to educate people about it.
Dmitry Vladimirov has been the head of the youth club of the Russian Geographical Society – a part of the regional division of the society – for three years. Voronezh youth club has been rated by the society the best in the country several times already. Dmitry Vladimirov was awarded the diploma of Nikolay Kasimov, the First Vice-President of the Russian Geographical Society, for his contribution in the development of the youth movement of the Russian Geographical Society in 2017.
The heads of other youth clubs granted Dmitry Vladimirov the honour to sit at the same table with Vladimir Putin and Sergey Shoygu.
