One of the aims of the annual survey "National university ranking" is to find an adequate evaluation method for the activities of a modern university which would correspond to the best world rankings.
Overall, the ranking evaluated 288 Russian universities, including 29 national research universities, 10 federal universities, 33 flagship universities, and 21 universities that participate in the project 5–100. The ranking also included 7 leading non-state universities.
"This year, the number of the participants included in the ranking has increased by 23 universities. However, we should admit that we do not aim at wide coverage, we purposefully study each university in isolation," said the editor of the National university ranking, Alexey Chaplygin.
