The publishing house Springer published the book “A Practical Approach to High-Performance Computing” written by the Head of the Department of Digital Technologies of the Faculty of Computer Sciences of Voronezh State University, Professor Sergey Kurgalin, and Associate Professor from the same department, Sergey Borzunov. The largest publishing house Springer specialises on academic and scientific papers.
The book is a contemporary guidebook on a very timely and dynamic topic: supercomputer programming. The material presented in it provides a comprehensive idea of supercomputer and computing cluster programming methods and also discusses in detail practical aspects of preparing parallel programs and an analysis of parallel algorithms. Most of the problems are accompanied by detailed solutions, answers, and recommendation. Program codes are provided with a large number of commentaries.
The authors have checked all the programs included in the book in the VSU Supercomputer Centre.
The text book is based on the many years of the authors’ teaching experience at the Faculty of Computer Sciences, including the courses “Parallel programming”, “Concurrent computing techniques”, and “Parallel and GRID computing”. It includes an overview of parallel programming tools, a classification of modern computer systems, a detailed description of algorithm challenges for RAM and PRAM models which are vital for theoretical analysis, and a detailed description of parallelizing techniques for systems with shared and distributed memory.
