On 7 December, a festival of the best folk music groups of Voronezh and the Voronezh region took place in the auditorium of the main university building. The event was dedicated to the anniversary of the folk music group “Terem”. Galina Sysoeva, honoured art worker of the Russian Federation, professor, and the head of the Department of Ethnomusicology of Voronezh State Art Institute, highly praised the group:
“Today, there are very few organisations that can promote among people the sense of national pride and connection with their history and culture. There are very few universities in our country which have such a high-profile folk music group. I am very proud of this!” That evening “Terem” enjoyed a standing ovation, flowers, and presents. Spectators representing different generations were extremely happy with the festival celebrating the anniversary of our folk music group.
“”Terem” is comprised of people who share friendly relations and common interests. Among the members of the group are students and graduates from different faculties and of different specialities and characters. However, what brings them together is a common interest, national singing traditions. This concert is a kind of progress report for us and I am glad that it was so festive. We could hear Southern Russian songs, songs of our ancestors which are a rarity today. My goal has always been to promote and popularise the original national musical culture of the Russian people among a very varied audience. That is why in the nearest future I plan to show new programmes at different venues of Voronezh, to hold traditional youth meetings at the university, and to participate in folk festivals. I wish Terem a long future, to develop their singing skills, be good friends and to never stop developing!” said the leader of the group Galina Khristova.
