On 13 May, the premier performance of the fifth season of the English language university drama group “Cats’ House” (Creative, Artistic, Talented Students’ House) took place in the auditorium of the main building of Voronezh State University. The drama group was organised by the Department of English Language for Sciences Faculties.
The performance called "Merry-Go-Round-Maugham" included five works by the famous British writer: "Breakfast", "Mr. Know-All", "Gigolo and Gigolette", "The Fortunate Painter and the Honest Jev", and "The Fall of Edward Bernard".
The actors were students from the Faculty of Computer Sciences, the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics, the Faculty of Chemistry, the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology, and the Faculty of Geography, the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, the Faculty of Pharmaceutics, the Faculty of Journalism, as well as students of the Voronezh Music School for children with disabilities, and the young children of VSU staff members, all in all over 110 people.
The play also included a performance by the university English chorus studio headed by Fulbright Scholarship intern, Madeleine Stiscal. The music written by Madelein played at the beginning of the event.
The performance dedicated to the year of theatre, received a very warm welcome by the audience. The house was full: all the seats were occupied and some people had to stand along the walls and in the aisles.
As usual, the participants performing for the third, fourth or fifth time were awarded with medals. Those who performed with the group for the second time received membership certificates for the drama group. They also received chocolates with an advertising bill at the back and the children were presented with balloons with the name of the studio and the inscription "5 seasons".
