On 18 May, the students' puppet theatre "Bi-Ba-Bo” by students from the Borisoglebsk branch of VSU gave a performance dedicated to the Day of the City in Borisoglebsk. The students prepared a new play “The Magic Ring” based on Boris Shergin’s fairy tale of the same name. The premier was a success. Over 200 people came to see the new play.
“I was pleased to see that children recognised the theatre’s screen and quoted lines from our previous performance, “Cat’s house”,” – said Sofia Podlesnova, a student playing in the theatre. “It means that people in Borisoglebsk know about us. A lot of them had heard about our new play and came to see it”.
15 students took part in “The Magic Ring”, and 25 people were involved in the production process. They began writing the screenplay and making puppets and decorations in February. Rehearsals prior to the first night took about a month.
“The Magic Ring” is difficult to perform. You need to create an illusion of multiple transformations and movements of the characters, which means that the 14 people behind the screen have to elaborate on their every single movement. And that’s not at all easy”, – said another student, Maria Lychagina.
“Each performance is a new step for us”, – said Vlada Bezrukova. “In the “Magic Ring” we’ve got puppets and people acting together. The unsuspecting audience get to see students themselves playing the roles of saleswomen, gipsies, and Parisian women. They dance and talk to the puppets. The audience liked it.”
On 19 May, the Day of Youth Organisations, the theatre "Bi-Ba-Bo” gave a performance at Yu.Tretiakov children's municipal library. “The Magic Ring” was a present from the student’s theatre to members of social organisations. Among the guests there were over fifty 4th grade schoolchildren.
