Between 1 and 9 February, Valeria Dedova, Olga Rukosuyeva, Anastasia Timashinova, and Anastasia Khimchinko, master’s students from the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology of Voronezh State University studying the programme “Foreign Language Teaching with the Application of Online Technologies”, completed an internship at Aston University (Birmingham, the UK). The group was supervised by Elena Chaika, Associate Professor of the Department of English Philology. The visit of VSU representatives to Aston University was due to the strong relationship between the two universities which had been built up during the Tempus project "Modernising European Language Teaching through the Introduction of Online Technologies in the Process of Teacher Training” (2013–2017).
The programme for the internship was prepared by Dr. Muna Morris-Adams, the Director of Master’s programmes in the area of linguistics at the University of Aston, who had visited Voronezh State University in 2016 as an expert of the Tempus project. The following VSU Tempus partners also contributed to the programme: Professor Sue Garton, Honorary Doctor of VSU, Dr. Nur Kurtoglu-Hooton, Dr. Jacquie Harding, and others.
Initially, VSU master’s students were expected to observe lessons dedicated to training methodologies in the area of linguistics, IT communication technologies in teaching languages, the theory and practice of intercultural communication, and other disciplines. However, from the very first day of the visit, the students and lecturers from the English university invited VSU students to fully participate in the educational process.
Apart from the educational programme, VSU representatives visited literary meetings organised by Professors of Aston University, theatres, museums, sightseeing tours in Birmingham, the city where the University of Aston is located, London, Edinburgh, Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford, and Bath.
Thanks to this internship our students have become much more proficient in English, and language teaching, have broadened their mind, and have enriched and extended their knowledge and experiences.
