Two years ago, as part of the cooperation between a number of Russian and German organizations implementing a joint Russian-German synchrotron radiation facilities project BESSY II in Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin (Germany), the participants started to develop the concept of a new modern precise analytical complex combining the latest achievements in the sphere of microscopic equipment, X-ray and electronic spectroscopy. Voronezh State University is taking part in the cooperation alongside such well-known and organizations as the Free University of Berlin, the TU Dresden, Saint Petersburg University, Southern Federal University, Moscow State University, and others.

VSU scholars have been working in close collaboration with the synchrotron radiation facility specialists for 12 years. The effective cooperation resulted in the development of an experimental station project which was presented by a team of authors, including Prof. E.P. Domashevskaya, Prof. D.A. Endovitskyy, and Ass. Prof. S.Yu. Turischev, at the conference on megafacilities in Bonn in September.

In the course of the collaborative work involving VSU scholars, the participants were able to develop a project of a modern multi-instrumental diagnostic station combining such analytical methods as photoelectronic spectroscopy, scanning tunnel microscopy, and photoemissive electron microscopy. Currently, test experiments are being conducted with using the full capacity of the station.

The developed station will allow Russian scientists to do up-to-date comprehensive interdisciplinary research in solid state physics, surface physics and chemistry, biology, geology, etc., studying the electronic structure and properties of multifunctional nano-, bio, and hybrid materials  in close collaboration with the international academic community.
