On 25 January, students and staff of our university celebrated two important holidays – the Day of Voronezh Liberation from Nazi Invaders and the Russian Students Day.

This day VSU staff gathered at the memorial dedicated to the university staff and students who died in the Great Patriotic War.

‘Everybody remembers how many people died defending Voronezh. Our city held out against the enemy, and our university worked till the very last moment. Great Patriotic War significantly affected the university’s life. Our teachers helped reconstruct the city and restore education and science. We have to honour and cherish our history and pass the memory of our ancestors from generation to generation. The academic staff of the Faculty of History have worked out History courses for schoolchildren of the Voronezh region and, thus, the deeds of our forefathers will be remembered,” said the Rector of VSU professor Dmitry Endovitsky.

The participants of the event paid the tribute to the memory of those fallen in the battle for Voronezh with a minute of silence and laid flowers at the memorial.

After that the university administration informally congratulated the students who gathered in the hall of the main university building.

‘Years of studentship is the brightest and the best time of your life. Follow your ambitions and our university will help you realise them’, said professor Dmitry Endovitsky.

Then the students were treated with a traditional dessert and the music by the cover band Cover Brothers.
