The Rector of Voronezh State University, Dmitry Endovitsky, and Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Social Development, Oleg Grishaev, paid a visit to the university academic training base “Nickel” in the Republic of Adygeya. During the trip, the further development of  the base was discussed.

In 2015, VSU acquired 4 hectares of land in a unique location. The academic training base has a very interesting location with an intricate geology. It is situated in a mountainous wooded area. Near the base there are the rivers Suk and Belaya, which is popular among extreme sport lovers.

Dmitry Endovitsky emphasises that VSU's training base in the Republic of Adygeya is an interesting place with diverse flora and fauna, and intricate geology:

‘It is a unique place that has everything we need for the training of students of the Faculties of Biology and Soil Sciences, Geology, History, Geography, Geoecology, and Tourism. It is not far from the Caucasus Nature Reserve and Lagonaki plateau where students can study caves, see old-growth box forests, and deep and narrow canyons that cut limestone rocks. This is where our base is situated. It is well visited in summer and winter by tourists from all over Russia. I am sure that the decision to create an academic training base is very timely. As for the infrastructure, the base has a comfortable camping site with all necessary facilities. During the trip, we met the director of the base and the administration of the Nickel settlement and discussed further development of the base. We came to the agreement that the base needs three more houses so that our students can live there more comfortably. I would like to thank the supervisor of the project, the Vice Rector for Strategic Administrative Management Yury Bubnov for his contribution to the development of the base.

This unique venue will become a wonderful place for training and will also be used to reward our best students. The next step for the development of the base might be the creation of a high ropes course.
