As part of the international forum “Linguistics and Challenges of the Modern Paradigm of Public Relations: Interdisciplinary, Intercultural, and Interlanguage Interactions” organised by the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology, a workshop dedicated to simultaneous translation was held at VSU. The workshop was organised with the support of the French Embassy in the Russian Federation. It was held by Tatiana Bodrova, a leading European simultaneous translator (Russia-French-English languages), who has worked for major international organisations. She is a certified translator at the presidential office and the government of France, she has a DSc degree in translation studies, has published numerous works, has been an Associate Professor at the ESIT School for Interpreters and Translators in Paris for over thirty years, and was the Director of the ESIT School for Interpreters and Translators in Paris between 2011 and 2015.
The Department of French Philology of Voronezh State University and the ESIT School for Interpreters and Translators in Paris have been involved in a long-standing cooperation. Tatiana Bodrova, in collaboration with the French Embassy, has implemented many interesting projects (educational, research, training workshops, internships, joint publications, etc.). This workshop attracted a lot of interest among university translator and interpreter trainers, students, and practising translators and interpreters. Tatiana Bodrova, a high profile professional, shared her secrets in the most difficult type of translation, simultaneous translation.
An important event took place within the workshop. Tatiana Bodrova presented her monograph “Russian translation studies in the context of the interpretative theory of translation (theory, practice, and methodology of teaching)” translated into Russian by Natalia Fenenko, Professor at the Department of French Philology. The book by Tatiana Bodrova presents unique research, which is an attempt to provide a thorough and detailed analysis of the concepts by leading Russian specialists in translation studies, to evaluate their contribution to the development of the theory of translation, and to fill the gap in the mutual knowledge about translation studies in Russia and France. This work is still perhaps the only international research that attempts to apprehend the contribution of the Russian science into the development of the theory and practice of translation and to compare linguistic approach to translation supported by Russian scientists and the interpretative theory of translation developed by the ESIT School for Interpreters and Translators. It is noteworthy that a few years earlier, Elena Alexeyeva and Natalia Fenenko, professors at the Department of French Philology, translated a monograph of Marianne Lederer, one of the authors of the interpretative theory of translation, “Contemporary aspects of translation in the context of the interpretative theory of translation”.
