On 25 October, VSU students and staff watched the solar eclipse at the VSU observatory. The event was organised by the staff of the Department of Optics and Spectroscopy of the Faculty of Physics of VSU.

The partial eclipse started at 11:58 (Moscow time), when the sun rose at the polar region of the Atlantic Ocean near the northern coast of Iceland. It could be then observed on the East and South-East, i.e., all over Europe except for the Iberian Peninsula, the North-East of Africa, and the Western and central Asia.

The eclipse ended at 16:02 (Moscow time), when the sun set in the Arabian Sea. In Voronezh, the eclipse started at 12:29 (Moscow time) and ended at 14:59 (Moscow time). The phase of the eclipse in Voronezh was 0.687, which means that the moon shadowed the sun by 70%. The maximum eclipse was observed at 13:45 (local time).

This eclipse was similar to the one observed on 14 October, 2004. The next such eclipse is expected on 4 June, 2027.
