On 22 December, Nikitin Regional Scientific Library hosted the traditional “Festival of the Russian Fairy Tale”. This year, the event, which has been organised by the Faculty of Philology of VSU for eight years, was dedicated to the 190th anniversary of the first publication of the collection of stories “Russian Tales. The First Five” by V.I. Dal. For the first time, the “Festival of the Russian Fairy Tale” was included in the list of the main cultural events by the Department of Education, Science, and Youth Policy of the Voronezh Region.

The opening speech was given by Zhanna Gracheva, Dean of the Faculty of Philology, and Olga Berdnikova, Head of the Department of Russian Literature of the 20th and 21st Centuries, Theory of Literature, and Humanities. The presenters of the festival were young lecturers from the Faculty of Philology, Yuri Malik and Polina Belousova.

Students from the Faculty of Philology prepared performances based on fairy tales by V.I. Dal and presented them onstage. International students who are studying at the faculty also showed their performances which the audience praised by a long applause.

The traditional competition of children’s and students’ paintings was also dedicated to fairy tales by V.I. Dal. Over a hundred works from pupils of secondary schools in the city and the region, further education centres, art schools, and universities of Voronezh had been submitted for the competition. The jury headed by a professional artist Vadim Kuznetsov chose winners and prize-winners in different nominations.

The winners were awarded with certificates. Their supervisors will receive letters of gratitude from the Department of Education, Science, and Youth Policy of the Voronezh Region.

The traditional calendar of the Faculty of Philology for 2023 will be printed based on the results of the competition. The calendar, which will include the paintings of the winners, will be edited by students from the Faculty of Philology.
