On 21 February, the students and staff of the International Education Institute of VSU took part in the Maslenitsa celebration, held on the International Mother Language Day. The event was held in Model Library No. 32 named after G.N. Troepolsky. It was attended by students from 15 countries.
Library staff organised an educational and entertaining programme, they presented the history, traditions, and customs of the holiday. The students played the Russian round dance game “Rucheyok” and took part in a master class on bell ringing in the library. The folk song group “Kolechko” and the Centre for Youth Artistic Development “Raduga” performed traditional celebration songs for the guests. The highlight of the holiday was treats from the library staff: pancakes made by an old recipe, and royal gooseberry jam, a favourite dessert of Pushkin and Empress Catherine the Great.
“We tried to tell the guests about the holiday, show them the beauty and richness of traditions and customs of the Russian people,” said Natalia Ivanova, Head of the library.
