Students of the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology now have an opportunity to study in a modernized language lab provided by the IT company "Dialog". The lab was created on the basis of a computer lab upgraded to the newest – fifth – modification, which is the modern variant of the language labs that the Faculty used to have before. Such equipment is used in very few places in Voronezh. There are, of course, computer labs in most educational institutions, but VSU is the only one with the special lab for teaching foreign languages. The cost of the lab consisting of 15 working places and a teacher's computer was about one million roubles.
All the computers are equipped with headphones and connected to the common network by special software, which allows the teacher to log into any computer in real time and access students' work. It also allows the teacher to give various group tasks to students.
The Faculty is also going to purchase special sound-insulated booths for simultaneous interpreting to model the real work situations for students during the class. The Faculty is also planning to open a new master's programme specialising in simultaneous interpreting. Modernising the equipment and curriculum enhances the studying process and makes it more interesting for students and school graduates.
