In May 1945 people met Soviet warriors returning home from war with branches of lilac. Lilac is a symbol of spring and a symbol of Great Victory.
In honour of those who protected our country in the Great Patriotic War the national event "Victory Lilac" was started all over Russia. In Voronezh 212 lilac bushes – the number of days the city defence lasted – were planted as part of the event.
Students of Voronezh State University were actively engaged in the event. Representatives of VSU Student Council planted 50 lilac bushes in front of dormitory №7 and together with students from the VSU social team IndiGo planted 30 bushes in front of university building № 3.
