On 16 May, the International Cooperation Department of VSU together with the volunteers of the project "The System of Curators for VSU foreign students”, organised a trip to the ethnographic museum "Russian Izba" (traditional Russian hut) in Chudovka, the Voronezh Region.
33 VSU students (including 11 international students) tried traditional Russian food – okroshka (a cold cucumber soup), Russian pancakes, and shashlyk (a kind of barbecue). They also had an opportunity to experience the daily routine of a Russian villager of the last century – to bring water from the stream using a special balancing device (koromyslo), to make a samovar, to bake pancakes in the traditional Russian hearth, or to try on a traditional Russian costume.
The museum founder and supervisor Natalia Suntsova told the students about every item of the exhibition. The students also took part in traditional singing and dancing.
