Three of the ERASMUS+ projects won by Voronezh State University constitute a part of Jean Monnet project dedicated to various aspects of the functioning of the European Union.

On 24th February, one of the projects – “European identity in terms of language policy of the European Union” (Identité européenne à travers la politique linguistique de l’Union Européenne – PolidEU) was launched at the Department of French Philology of the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology of Voronezh State University. The project is aimed at enhancing teaching and research concerning study of the European Union and European integration process within subjects taught at the Department; and creation of a 60-hour educational module.

Among the goals of the project are:

  • To enhance the graduates’ employment and career possibilities by means of more thorough study of aspects of the functioning of the EU within vocationally-oriented subjects
  • To develop basic knowledge about the EU among students whose speciality does not relate directly to studying the aspects of its function
  • To build awareness of the importance of common identity and the role of the language in the process of its development
  • To develop critical thinking, civil responsibility, tolerance and respect for the values of various cultures, understanding and mutual respect, and skills necessary for work in a multicultural environment
  • To build awareness of the importance to overcome stereotypes and to develop competencies necessary for adapting to a multicultural environment.

To implement the project “European identity in terms of language policy of the European Union” the Head of the Department of French Philology professor Elena Alexeyeva and Associate professor Svetlana Bulgakova have developed a course that consists of 11 modules and studies peculiarities of European identity in terms of language, migration, educational and business policies of the EU. The modules will be studied within the framework of blended learning using the university platform Moodle.

The target audience for the PolidEU project are 4 focus groups that consist of participants who can speak French: students of the 3rd and 4th years of the Department of French Philology of the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology, students of the Faculty of International Relations, participants of the Presidential Managers’ Training Programme, and school teachers. A corresponding module was developed for each group.

Representatives of two other Jean Monnet projects implemented at VSU were present at the opening ceremony of the new programme: a leading specialist of the Centre of VSU International Projects and Programmes Anna Nedzelskaya and associate professor of the Department of International and European Law of the Law Faculty Dmitry Galushko. The guests presented their projects to the audience and told them about prospects for cooperation with the EU in the area of education and law.
