On 16 April, the international annual educational event Total dictation was held worldwide. The goal of the event is to enhance literacy and foster love and respect for the Russian language.
This year, 146 thousand people from 58 countries of the world took part in the event. In the Voronezh region there were 34 specialized platforms where 1,215 citizens of the region came to check their knowledge of Russian. This year the extract for the dictation was a text by Andrei Usachev, a children’s writer and poet, the screenwriter of the cartoons “Smart Little Dog Sonya” “Adventures in the Emerald City”, “Ku! Voronezh State University took an active part in the event. The Faculty of Philology organised a two-month course for those who wanted to prepare for the dictation. Lecturers, postgraduate, and undergraduate students read out the dictation and checked the works. About 200 people came to the university to write the dictation. This year the guest speaker was the Head of the Administration of the State Road Traffic Safety Inspection of the Voronezh Regional Department of the Russian Ministry of the Interior, police lieutenant colonel Yevgeny Shatalov.
