On 27 April, the Voronezh Youth Theatre performed the premier of a play directed by Alexandre Latushko. Students of Voronezh State University, the university rector, Dmitry Endovitsky, the dean of the Faculty of Journalism, Vladimir Tulupov, the dean of the Faculty of Philology, Olga Berdnikova, and the head of the Department of Russian Literature of XX–XXI Centuries, the Department of the Theory of Literature and Folklore, Tamara Nikonova watched the comedy "The Inspector General" based on the play by Nikolay Gogol.

'The play "The Inspector General" is known by all Russians and is one of our favourite plays. The show is full of vigour – it is very timely and discusses problems relevant to contemporary Russia. This premier play is one of the most important events of the year in the theatrical life of the city. In my opinion, Alexadre Latushko found some interesting details that help express the image better. I am very glad that our students had a chance to see the play. They will understand that the theatre in Voronezh is not on the decline,' said Dmitry Endovitsky.

Third year students of the Faculty of Philology had to write a review of the play. A third year student of the Faculty of Philology, Ekaterina Strelnikov, told us about her thoughts on the play.

'I am ambivalent about the show. On the one hand, the actors' acting was vigorous, intense, and funny, and the audience reacted very well - the play produced storms of laughter. The theatricals were eye-catching and the music was well-chosen. On the other hand, the director's interpretation of some characters was very different from tradition, the one we are used to. And I can't say that it was always very successful. However, I should say that the show triggered a heated discussion among the students and lecturers of the Faculty of Philology. To my mind, this is exactly what matters in art – it should impress people and make them want to discuss it and search for the truth.
