If it was not for the war...

On 5 May, The History Museum of Voronezh State University opened the exhibition "In memory of Oleg Shevtsov". The exhibition tells the story of life and the heroic deed of a graduate of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics of Voronezh State University. Oleg Shevtsov, who died in Chechnya in 1996 near the settlement Yarysh-Mardy when the column of the 245th guards motor rifle regiment was attacked by militant groups. The young man risked his life to drag a soldier out of a burning BMP-2. And later, despite many wounds, he continued to fight.

By a Presidential Decree, Oleg Shevtsov was posthumously awarded with the Order of Courage "for valour and bravery when accomplishing a special assignment". By decision of the Academic Council of VSU, room № 10 at the university's Reserve Officer Training Department, was named after Oleg Shevtsov. A commemorative plaque was also hung in front of the room.

Additionally, prior to Victory Day, the University History Museum opened the exhibition "My darling, if it wasn't for the war". This is a joint project of the History Museum, the club "Word and Image", and the children educational centre "Real School". The exhibition included various applied works of art created by the schoolchildren and teachers of "Real School".

The visitors could see the collection of war time costumes "Disquiet youth" and works of young designers dedicated to the Great Patriotic War. They could also watch miniature pictures of Second World War battles and photographs of battle reconstructions by Dmitry Chernov, the photographer of the VSU Press and Information Office. Among other exhibits of the History Museum are authorial dolls, pictures, embroidery, stained glass painting, and appliquéd ornaments.
