On 25 February, yet another meeting within the “Saturday University” project was held at VSU. This time the topic was robotics. Mikhail Shiryaev, lecturer at the Department of Software Development and Information Systems Administration of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics, told the guests about the process of making robots.
He said that there are two ways to build a robot. The first is to use ready-made construction kits. The other way is to make robots using any materials and parts available. The second approach allows inventors to demonstrate their creative abilities, as well as to save money. The lecturer demonstrated several devices for the ultrasonic measuring of temperature, humidity level and distance, and explained how to make useful tools using cheap materials. He also showed the audience a balancing robot constructed by the members of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics, and allowed the children not merely to watch the robot, but to control it themselves. The lecture was also broadcast online, so anyone could join in.
