On 30 September, Voronezh State University opened its doors to graduates from various periods. The university held the reunion meeting for graduates “All Together”. The event was dedicated to VSU’s 100th anniversary. On this day over 1,000 people at the university “passed a test in good mood”.
The first speaker to welcome the graduates was VSU Rector Dmitry Endovitsky. He told the audience about VSU’s upcoming 100th anniversary and the festive events:
‘University cities are always very dynamic. They have a special atmosphere and culture. That is why the Governor of the Voronezh region, Alexey Gordeev, took the decision to celebrate two holidays together in 2018: the Day of the City and VSU’s centenary,’ said the Head of the university.
The university is going to celebrate the anniversary in style and has already planned a number of events, including students’ spring festival for graduates from various periods, relays, bike rides, tournaments of sciences, issuing commemorative coins, creating huge photo zones with giant letters “VSU”, opening of a Walk of Graduates in the Botanical Garden of Voronezh State University, and etc.
The graduates also contribute to the preparations of 100th anniversary celebrations by their contributions to the University's Endowment Fund. The director of the Endowment Funds, Elena Ivashinenko, told us about these activities:
“The university is always associated with youth. I hope that we will always feel young. VSU’s energy is a key to future success, not only of the region, but of the country as a whole”. “Classical university is our pride,” said a graduate of the Faculty of History and a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Andrey Markov. He is also a member of the organisation committee for the 100th anniversary of Voronezh State University.
Oxana Oracheva, the CEO of Potanin Charitable Foundation gave VSU a special present for its 100th anniversary.
VSU graduates keep in touch with its alma mater. VSU alumni associations have been established abroad. Such organisations have already been created in Germany and Hungary. Soon, a similar association will be started in China. This Saturday, among the participants of the event were representatives of the German Alumni Association – a graduate of the Faculty of Chemistry of 1978, professor from the Department of Technical Chemistry of Oldenburg University, Honorary Doctor of VSU, Frank Roessner, and the Head of the chemical/industrial technopark, Klaus-Dieter Heinze.
The Deputy Head of the branch of VoRU OAO MInB Moscow Industrial Bank, Andrey Khitskov, extended his good wishes. He said that VSU holds a very important place in his life – three generations of his family graduated from Voronezh State University.
On this day all graduates “passed a test in good mood”. The opening ceremony was followed by reunion meetings at their faculties where the classmates could remember university years and traditions, communicate informally, and meet the lecturers. They shared their stories and talked about the role of the university in their lives.
