Voronezh State University won the contest within the national project by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation “Universities as centres for innovation” and received the status of centre for innovative, technological, and social development.
The results of the competition were announced on 14 December at the university forum ”Flagship Universities as Drivers of Regional Development” that took place in Shukhov Belgorod State Technological University.
121 applications were submitted for the contest, and 51 of them won as a result of high competition. Among the winners were federal (10), flagship (23), national research (6), 5–100 project (10) universities and only two institutions that do not belong to any of those groups. These are Voronezh State University and Volgograd University.
It is particularly pleasing to note that Voronezh is among the cities that received more than one centre. The list also includes such cities as Volgograd, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, Tomsk, Tumen, and others. Such a status can only be received due to consolidated efforts of universities, regional authorities, and business communities.
The goal of the “Universities as centres for innovations” project is to make universities the key driver of regional competitiveness.
