On 14 May, the premier performance of the fourth season of the English language university drama group “Cats’ House” (Creative, Artistic, Talented Students’ House) took place in the auditorium of the main building of Voronezh State University. The drama group was organised by the Department of English Language for Sciences Faculties.
The new play called “Mark Twain, or Life on the Mississippi” is based on six books of the author – The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, A Ghost Story, The Million Pound Note, Mrs. McWilliams and the Lightning, The Prince and the Pauper, and Legend of the Capitoline Venus.
The actors were students of the Faculty of Computer Sciences, the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics, the Faculty of Chemistry, the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology, and the Faculty of Geography, Geoecology and Tourism, as well as students of the Voronezh Music School for children with disabilities, and the young children of VSU staff members – all in all over 120 people.
The performance was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of VSU. It received a very warm welcome by the audience, and the large auditorium was nearly completely full. At the end of the performance both the actors and the audience sang a song dedicated to the university’s centenary that was specially written for the occasion.
As usual, the participants performing for the third or fourth time were awarded with medals. Those who performed with the group for the second time received membership certificates for the drama group. Together with medals and certificates all the actors also received chocolate bars with the poster for the performance printed on the wrapping.
There was also a large cake with the symbol of the performance on it for everyone to eat.
