Between 23 and 25 April, Vice Rector for Strategic Administrative Management, Yury Bubnov, the Dean of the Faculty of Geology, Victor Nenakhov, the Head of the Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies, Natalia Yakovlenko, and Associate Professor Igor Komov visited the field training base Nikel in the Adygea republic.
This place provides unique opportunities for practice training of students from all faculties of the university.
Adygea is a mountainous area of Russia. There is no sea there, however, it has picturesque mountains and mountain rivers which you can admire and study incessantly. Practice training is a wonderful opportunity for students not only to get and reinforce necessary skills but to breathe in fresh mountain air, see violent streams and whirlpools of the river Belaya, have a swim in the river Syuk, cross a mountain river over a hanging bridge, and admire the fascinating mountain landscapes.
‘The Rufabgo waterfalls are absolutely wonderful. These are unique waterfalls situated in the gorge of the river Rufabgo, one of the feeders of the river Belaya.’ said Natalia Yakovenko. ‘Not far from the waterfalls, there is the unique natural monument in the Republic Adygea, the Khadzhokhsky canyon.
Adygea has hot springs. They are so well equipped that you feel like you are abroad. In a spring situated not far from the base, the water is crystal clear.
The base is surrounded by a forest and is located in a flat area. It has a comfortable camping site.
At the base, you can study geographic regularities of positional relation of natural components, i.e. geologic and tectonic structure of the territory, relief, climate, water bodies, soil, vegetation, wildlife, landscapes, and their peculiarities in natural environment and when affected by human activity. Students can study certain natural components or various assemblages or industrial or agricultural facilities. Students develop skills of en-route and fixed site observation, field and in-office studies.
Students studying ecology and geography can broaden their mind by analysing correlations between natural components and changes in the development of national economy. They can also study various specialisation areas of the national economy in the Southern Federal District by the example of Rostov-on-Don, the Rostov region, and the Republic of Adygea.
The field practice includes studying certain natural components, which is required by many specialities. At the base, you can complete practice training in a certain area or a comprehensive inter-zonal training.
