8th Volga Region Open Student Programming Championship took place in Korolev Samara National Research University. 69 teams from the Volga region and other regions of Russia took part in the championship. Voronezh State University was represented by four teams which included students from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics and the Faculty of Computer Sciences.
The championship is traditionally held in the ACM format. Each team consisting of three participants was challenged to solve 12 problems in five hours. The programme Monitor showed how the participants were solving tasks: each line provided information about the team, the number of solved tasks sent for testing, the time when the tasks were sent for testing, and the results of the tests.
According to the results of the main round, second place was awarded to the team from our university which consisted of a master’s student from the Faculty of Computer Sciences, Mikhail Zemlyanukhin (captain of the team), a master’s student from the Faculty of Computer Sciences, Alexandre Nogikh, and a student from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics, Alexey Zolotukhin.
Our contestants also took part in the 2nd Open Student Programming Championship of the South Russia “ContestSFedU–2018”, which was held in the Southern Federal University. The championship included a programming round and a game strategy round “Code Warriors Challenge”. Our team, which consisted of a postgraduate student from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics, Sergey Babkin (captain of the team) and master’s students from the Faculty of Computer Sciences, Mikhail Zemlyanukhin and Alexandre Nogikh, won two prizes: the first place certificate for the game strategy round “Code Warriors Challenge” and the third place certificate for the team programming round.
The participation of our teams in regional programming championships helps them to prepare for the World Open Student Programming Championship (ACM) the quarter-final of which will take place in October at Chernyshevsky Saratov National Research University.
We congratulate our students on their success in April regional programming championships and wish them great luck in new competitions!
