On 13 July, the head of the Voronezh administration, Vadim Kstenin, visited the construction site of the Scientists Park next to the Universitetskaya square, which is due to be opened in September.
According to Vadim Kstenin, the new park that will be a recreation area for students, citizens, and guests of the city, is now 50% ready. The roads are paved, there are trees, flowerbeds, grass, benches, and trash bins.
The area previously occupied by fast food stands will be transformed into a park with various art objects devoted to five Nobel prize winners associated with Voronezh and the Voronezh Region: Ivan Bunin, Pavel Cherenkov, Mikhail Sholokhov, Nikolai Basov, and Zhores Alferov. All the art objects in the park were designed by Alexey Dikunov, a member of the Union of Moscow Artists.
Head of the Department of Culture of Voronezh Government, Andrey Kharitonov, described the sculptures:
“There will be a horizontal bookshelf devoted to Bunin, a symbol of Basov’s laser, and, at the very end of the alley – Cherenkov’s antenna, Alferov’s heterostructures, and a pile of books by Sholokhov”. This are the five artistic objects.
The Voronezh Administration also aims to redecorate the facades of the houses next to the park, repair the utility poles, and install the “Safe City” system to prevent vandalism.
