On 10 September, a presentation of the book “VSU from A to Z” by the members of the Department of English Language for Sciences Faculties was held at the VSU’s conference hall. The book was dedicated to the university's 100th anniversary.
At the beginning of her presentation, the chief editor of the book M.A. Sternina pointed out that it is the result of joint efforts of over 100 people including undergraduate and postgraduate students who wrote essays about the history of Voronezh State University, the teachers who supervised the process, a graduate of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics, Evgeniya Chekhonadskikh who illustrated the book, and two Fulbright Scholarship holders, Jessica Humizio and Meredith Doubleday, who did the proofreading of the texts in English.
It took nearly three years to finish the book. Before the actual writing the authors of the idea organised a kind of competition in order to determine the list of key words associated with the university and student life.
Guests of the presentation, including Associate professor A.A. Listengarten, Professor A.P. Babushkin, Professor I.A. Sternin, Dean of the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology Professor O.O. Boriskina, and CEO of the language school “Interlingua” E.I. Kikteva, praised the unusual format of the book, as it comprises very different things and places connected with VSU – from Yuriev University and Galychya Gora to Lisa the Cat and the Chupa Chups (a nickname of the monument in front of the university’s main building). The style of the book is also very interesting as its articles were written by young people and are filled with humour and love to their university.
After the presentation the authors of the book received their copies and took a photo all together.
